Peristaltic pumps Seko and why they need scheduled maintenance
Seko is one of the leading international manufacturers of metering pumps. Its range of peristaltic pumps is used extensively in residential and community pools for the automatic dosing of chemicals (pH regulator, sodium hypochlorite, flocculant).
Unlike electromagnetic pumps (which use an electromagnet that moves a diaphragm), electromagnetic pumps can be used for peristaltic pumps operate with a rotor with rollers compressing a flexible tube to drive the liquid. It is a mechanically simple system but with one important feature: the peristaltic tube is a consumable which wears out due to repeated compression and must be replaced periodically according to the official calendar Seko:
- Peristaltic tube: each 12-24 months.
- Valve and filter cleaning: semiannually.
- Probe calibration (pH, ORP): each 3-6 months.
- Visual inspection of connectionsAt the beginning of each season.
This calendar is what keeps the dosing accuracy and avoids problems such as pH-reducer overdosing (which stresses the user and the pool) or chlorine underdosing (which allows algae to proliferate).
Models Seko in the catalog and its spare parts sub-categories
Tekna Evo range (the most extended)
- Spare parts Seko Tekna EvoCovers the following variants AKS y AKL (analog control with potentiometer) and TPG (proportional). The Tekna Evo is the standard range of Seko for residential and semi-professional pools.
PoolMatch range
- Spare parts Seko PoolMatchDosing panel with automatic pH and ORP control, one of the most complete options for residential pools.
Basic peristaltic pump range
- Seko PoolBasic, PR1, PR4, PE, PoolDose, PoolOnePeristaltic pumps: independent peristaltic pumps with or without pH control. Spare parts (peristaltic tubing, fitting, probe holders, suction filter) are often common between several of these ranges.
Independent heads (Invikta, Kompact)
- Replaceable complete heads Invikta y KompactWhen the head of a peristaltic pump is very worn or broken, it is possible to replace only the head without replacing the entire pump.
OEM models of Seko sold under other brands
Seko factory OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for various brands in the Spanish market: some models marketed as Baeza Invicta, CTX MyPool, Etatron ePool, Sugar Valley KBPER, Zodiac eXPERT are technically pumps Seko or use parts Seko. This means that many spare parts Seko are compatible with pumps of other brands in the market.
Most requested parts and compatibilities
All parts are originals Seko. To avoid incorrect orders, please identify the exact model of your pump (label on the side or front of the equipment) before placing your order.
The main consumable: peristaltic tube
| Part | Application |
|---|---|
| Santoprene peristaltic tube | Piece of higher turnover (replacement every 12-24 months depending on use). Available in references by model: PoolDose 1.5 l/h, PoolMatch/PoolBasic ranges, Tekna Evo. |
The peristaltic tube is the heart of the system: the roller rotor compresses it hundreds of thousands of times per season and the material fatigues. When it reaches the end of its service life, it no longer drives the liquid properly and symptoms such as the following appear underdosing, internal leakage or lack of priming.
Material: santoprene (TPE thermoplastic) in most pumps Seko. Resistant to most pool chemicals (pH regulator, diluted hypochlorite) in normal residential concentrations.
Complete heads
| Part | Application |
|---|---|
| Kompact head | Complete pump head replacement Seko of the Kompact range |
| Invikta Head | Complete pump head replacement Seko Invikta |
When the head is heavily worn (rotor, internal rollers, tube housing), it usually compensates for replace the complete head instead of attempting to repair individual parts.
Mechanical and electrical components
| Part | Application |
|---|---|
| Peristaltic motor | Motor driving the rotor; infrequent replacement (very long life) |
| Roll holder | Holds rotor rollers; replace if worn or broken |
| Invikta/Kompact Membrane | Periodic replacement on membrane heads |
| Pump support | Wall mounting structure |
| Keypad + front panel Tekna TPG | Complete replacement of the front end on Tekna Evo TPG |
| Keyboard + front panel Tekna TPR | Complete replacement of the front end on Tekna TPR |
Hydraulic connections (cross compatibility with other brands)
| Part | Cross compatibilities |
|---|---|
| Injection fitting (with lip) | Seko PoolBasic, Seko PR1, Baeza Invicta Basic Pro 2020, CTX MyPool, Etatron ePool, Sugar Valley KBPER, Zodiac eXPERT |
| Probe holder PSS3 long | Broad compatibility |
| Peristaltic suction filter | Broad compatibility |
This cross compatibility is one of the great advantages of spare parts SekoIf you have a Baeza Invicta pump, CTX MyPool, Etatron ePool, Sugar Valley or Zodiac and you need a fitting, a probe or a suction filter, parts Seko probably serve.
Probes and electrodes
| Part | Length / Variant |
|---|---|
| PH electrode Seko | 1.5 meters |
| PH electrode Seko | 5 meters |
| Redox electrode Seko | 1.5 meters |
| Redox electrode Seko | 5 meters |
| Redox electrode Seko gold-tipped | 5 meters (more accurate and faster reading) |
The pH and ORP probes are consumable: typical service life of 2-4 seasons with normal use and proper maintenance. The probe Redox with gold tip offers greater accuracy and faster response, recommended for installations requiring fine control of free chlorine.
Calibration buffer solutions (consumables)
| Part | Application |
|---|---|
| Buffer solution pH 4 (50 ml) | Lower pH probe calibration |
| Buffer solution pH 7 (50 ml) | Neutral point calibration of pH probe |
| ORP buffer solution 465 mV (50 ml) | Redox probe calibration |
| ORP buffer solution 700 mV (70 ml) | Redox probe calibration (high range) |
Buffer solutions are used to calibrate probes every 3-6 months. Without proper calibration, the pH and ORP readings are unreliable and the pump doses incorrectly (over- or under-dosing). The solutions have own useful life (approximately 2 years closed): it is advisable to buy them new when they are going to be used.
When to replace each part - actual symptoms
| Symptom | Candidate piece | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not dose or doses too little | Worn or pinched peristaltic tube | Replace tube (check every 12-24 months) |
| Product dripping from the head | Cracked peristaltic tube or worn out head | Replace tubing; if persistent, complete head |
| Motor rotates but does not drive liquid | Permanently crushed or broken peristaltic tube | Replace pipe |
| Rotor vibration or abnormal rotor noise | Worn roller holder or rollers | Replace roller holder |
| Motor does not rotate | Peristaltic motor or control electronics | Check power supply; if motor is faulty, replace it |
| PH probe gives strange readings | Probe out of calibration or dry | Recalibrate with buffer pH 4 and pH 7; if no response, replace with a new buffer |
| Redox probe always gives equal readings | Probe out of calibration or depleted | Recalibrate with buffer 465 mV / 700 mV; if no response, replace with a new buffer |
| Loss of priming at the beginning of the season | Clogged suction filter or dry pipe | Clean filter; if dry, prime by hand |
| Leakage at the injection fitting | Racord or damaged lip | Replace fitting (cross compatibility with other brands) |
| Panel keypad does not respond | Keyboard + front panel damaged | Replace the assembly (Tekna TPG or TPR depending on the model) |
Maintenance that extends the service life of peristaltic pumps Seko
Scheduled replacement of the peristaltic tube. The rule is clear: every 12-24 months depending on use. Pumps with intensive dosing (high capacity pools, hard water) towards the low end (12 months); pumps with moderate dosing (private residential pools with normal use) towards the high end (24 months). Do not wait for the rulingWhen the tube ruptures in the middle of summer, the chemical spills out and can damage nearby electronic components.
Biannual cleaning of valves and filters. At the beginning and in the middle of the season, clean the suction filter (which is submerged in the product canister) and check the injection and suction valves. The accumulation of crystallization from evaporation of chemicals can clog small passages.
Calibration of probes every 3-6 months. The probes pH y Redox decalibrate over time: the membrane accumulates residues, the internal solution loses concentration. Calibrate with buffer solutions (pH 4 + pH 7 for pH; ORP 465 mV or 700 mV for ORP) twice a season ensures correct dosages. A poorly calibrated probe causes overdosing (excessive chemical consumption, too low pH, irritation of bathers) or underdosing (poorly treated water, risk of algae).
Correct storage of probes in winter. PH and ORP probes cannot dryIf they dry out, the membrane dies irreversibly. At the end of the season, remove the probes from the piping, clean them with fresh water and store them in their original stoppers with tap water or KCL solution (potassium chloride). Never leave them installed in an empty pipe for months at a time.
On-load installation (official recommendation of Seko. . Seko recommends the installation of metering pumps on load (the drum of the chemical above pump, not underneath) because it offers:
- Increased accuracy dosing system.
- Less wear and tear of the peristaltic tube.
- Ideal for volatile products (as sodium hypochlorite).
If your current installation is in aspiration (drum below the pump) and you notice frequent priming problems, consider modifying the installation to the on-load configuration.
Control panel electrical protection. Connect the pump to an electrical panel with differential and circuit breaker correctly dimensioned. Consider a surge Protector (DPS) if the area is prone to thunderstorms: nearby lightning strikes are the main cause of failure of the panel electronics.
Basic diagnostics before purchasing the spare part
| Symptom | Most probable cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Pump doses little or not at all | Worn peristaltic tube | Check date of last replacement; change if >18 months |
| Peristaltic tube crushed but not cracked | End of normal tube life | Replace |
| PH probe always reads 7.0 | Dead or non-contact probe | Recalibrate; if unresponsive, replace |
| Redox probe reading 0 mV | Probe cable incorrectly connected or dead probe | Check cable; recalibrate; if unresponsive, replace |
| Pump doses non-stop (overdosing) | Probe out of calibration or expired product | Recalibrate; check product |
| Leakage at the injection fitting | Deformed or loose tightening of the clamp | Replace fitting |
| Front panel does not respond | Deteriorated keypad or internal panel failure | Replace keypad + front panel (Tekna TPG or TPR) |
| Engine will not start | Fuse, power supply or motor at end of life | Check fuse; service if persistent |
