Questions and answers
are they compatible with saline electrolysis?
Yes, they are fully compatible with salt chlorination pools
should I choose a compact monobloc system or pre-assembled filtration equipment?
- Monobloc: Easy installation, ideal for demountable pools.
- Filtration equipment: more complex installation, for new inground pools or renovations.
what is the recommended flow rate to filter the entire volume of my pool in 4-6 hours?
Flow rate = Volume / Time Example: 50 m³ / 5 h = 10 m³/h
what size filter and pump do I need based on the volume of my pool?
- 30 m³: Pump 0.5 HP and filter 6-8 m³/h
- 50 m³: Pump 0.75 HP and filter 10-12 m³/h
- 80 m³: 1 HP pump and 14-16 m³/h filter
how do you determine the proper filter diameter based on the volume of the pool?
The following are recommendations based on water volume:
Pool volume Recommended filter diameter
- Up to 30 m³ Ø400 mm
- Up to 45 m³ Ø500 mm
- Up to 75 m³ Ø600 mm
how to choose the most suitable filter media for my pool?
There are several filter media, each with different characteristics:
- Flint sand: inexpensive and traditional, filters particles down to approximately 40 microns.
- AFM glass: Offers finer filtration down to 10 microns, is durable and reduces chemical consumption.
- NW40 filter glass: Good value for money, filters better than sand and has a long service life.
what is pool filtration equipment and how to choose the most suitable one?
When we talk about filtration equipment for swimming pools, we are referring to what is commonly known as filtering houses or pre-assembled technical rooms. These are compact structures that integrate all the necessary elements for water treatment, thus facilitating their installation, maintenance or replacement.
This type of solution is ideal both for renovations and for newly built pools, as it allows a complete renovation of the purification system.
what is included in a filtration system?
A pre-assembled filtration equipment usually includes:
- Filter suitable for sand or glass filter load
- Filtration pump
- Selector valve
- Hydraulic connections
It does not include:
Types of filtration houses: surface or buried?
One of the first aspects you should consider when choosing your filtration equipment is the type of filtration house: above ground or underground.
Above-ground houses
- Easy access to the purification system, as they usually have side and top doors.
- Easier to install and maintain.
- Recommended for those who prioritize convenience in daily maintenance.
In-ground tanks
- They are better integrated in the aesthetic environment of the pool.
At Quimipool, we recommend installing them semi-buried: half underground and half above ground. This solution facilitates access for maintenance, while protecting the components from direct sun and inclement weather.
Installation recommendation:
- Drill a hole of suitable dimensions.
- Pour a level concrete base.
- Build a small brickwork chamber (citara type), to avoid earth pressure on the house.
- Place the house on this structure, leaving the upper part visible.
how does pool filtration equipment work?
The process begins when the pump sucks the water from the pool through the skimmer or the bottom. This water, which contains dirt, first passes through a motor pre-filter that retains large debris. It is then pumped to the filter, where fine particles are removed by the filter media (sand, glass, AFM, etc.).
Finally, the filtered water is returned to the pool through the delivery nozzles. The selector valve allows you to choose between different functions: filtration, washing, rinsing, emptying, recirculation or shut-off.
Key technical concepts explained
- Flow rate (m³/h): Amount of water that can be filtered by the equipment in one hour. It is recommended that the entire pool volume be filtered every 4-6 hours.
- Sand or glass filter: Filter bed through which the water passes, trapping dirt and microscopic debris. I invite you to read this article https://www.quimipool.com/blog/comparacion-de-medios-filtrantes-para-piscinas-cual-es-la-mejor-opcion/
- 6-way selector valve: Allows you to change the operating mode of the filtration equipment.
- Pump pre-filter: Basket that collects leaves, hair and debris before reaching the filter.
what filter diameter do you need according to the volume of your pool?
Once you have defined whether you prefer an above-ground or in-ground pool house, the next step is to correctly choose the diameter of the filter that your filtration equipment will include.
This is crucial, since an undersized filter can result in:
- Unnecessary energy consumption
- Poorer water quality
- Increased maintenance needs
Recommendations according to water volume
Here is a guide to select the filter diameter according to the cubic meters of your pool:
Pool volume. Recommended filter diameter
- Up to 30 m³ Filter of Ø400 mm
- Up to 45 m³ Filter Ø500 mm
- Up to 75 m³ Filter Ø600 mm
These recommendations are intended for normal domestic use, with a pump well adjusted to the flow rate of the filter and a good quality filter media (such as recycled glass or flint sand).
what type of filter to choose according to the quality of the material?
At Quimipool we work mainly with two types of filters, which differ in terms of their material of manufacture and, therefore, their resistance, durability and price.
Injected plastic filters (Neptune Range)
- Manufactured by injection molding.
- They are lighter and more economical.
Laminated polyester filters (Alaska, RPG, Ramses ranges)
- Manufactured with fiberglass reinforced polyester resin.
- Greater mechanical resistance and durability under pressure.
