Questions and answers
how do I identify exactly the model of my Hayward to order the correct replacement?
Look at the label on the robot (on the housing or base): the complete model is something like "Hayward TigerShark 2", "Hayward AquaVAC 300", "Hayward AquaVAC Drive", "Hayward eVAC", "Hayward Navigator", "Hayward Navigator Pro", "Hayward Navigator V-Flex", "Hayward Poolvac V-Flex" or "Hayward AquaShark". You can also locate it on the power supply box (the electrical Hayward have an external transformer with a code), in the manual or on the invoice. If the label is illegible, send a photo to the technical team: the shapes and housings Hayward allow visual identification.
what is the difference between electric and hydraulic Hayward?
These are two very different technologies:
- Electric (TigerShark, AquaVAC, eVAC, AquaShark): they have their own motor, external transformer connected to the mains, floating cable and internal filtration by filter element. They clean autonomously following a programmed pattern.
- Hydraulic (Navigator, Poolvac V-Flex): no electric motor. They are connected to the pool skimmer or directly to the pump and take advantage of the hydraulic flow of the filtering machine itself to move and vacuum. The filtration is done by the main filter of the purifier, not by the robot.
The hydraulic ones are cheaper to maintain (less electronics to fail) but require a minimum flow from the pump to work well. Electric ones are more efficient at cleaning but have more components that can fail in the long run.
does the TigerShark 2 filter element also fit the AquaVAC?
The complete filter element is a broadly compatible part within the Hayward electric range: AquaShark, AquaVAC 300, AquaVAC Drive, AquaVAC QC, TigerShark, TigerShark QC and TigerShark 2 share the same filter element part number. This is an important advantage of the brand: if you buy one filter element for replacement, it fits several models. To confirm before ordering, tell the technical team the exact model and they will verify that the filter element part number fits your robot.
my Hayward Navigator is from the 2000's, are there still spare parts?
Yes, the Navigator range is still active with a stable spare parts catalog: cork skids (4-pack), rocker bearing and other internal parts are still available. The Navigator and Navigator Pro share many parts, and the Navigator V-Flex and Poolvac V-Flex add compatibilities with cork skids. For very specific internal parts of older versions, contact the technical team indicating model and, if available, photo of the robot.
what parts are most frequently changed on an electric Hayward?
In order of rotation:
1. Complete filter element (every 1-2 seasons, it is the part that suffers most from retained dirt). 2. Caterpillar belt in models with caterpillar (every 3-5 seasons). 3. Roller + foam assembly (every 3-4 seasons, the foam peels). 4. Bearings (track, steering) - only if noisy or jammed, normal long life. 5. Power box - very long life (8-12 seasons), only replaced if it fails.
Engine block failures are rare in normal use and are associated with water ingress into the internal seal or electrical overloads (lightning, power surges).
what is changed on a Hayward Navigator/Poolvac V-Flex hydraulic?
In order:
1. Cork skids (4-pack): highest turnover part, especially with liner pools. 2. Suction hose: if it has cuts, loose connector or is too short after years of use. 3. Rocker bearing assembly: if there is play or noise in the Navigator's characteristic movement. 4. Turbine diaphragm: internal part that regulates the suction flow, long life. 5. Feet or foot pads: if the model has them, they wear by friction.
Hydraulics have much less breakage than electric ones, which is why they are so durable.
can I change the parts of a Hayward myself?
Yes, most are affordable for home user:
Electric:
- Filter element: trivial, no tools.
- Track belt: requires disassembly of track, 20-30 minutes.
- Roller + foam assembly: requires disassembly of roller, 15-20 minutes.
- Bearings: requires partial opening, 30-45 minutes.
- Handle: simple, bolted.
Hydraulic:
- Cork skids: require removing the old part (sometimes with a screwdriver) and fitting the new one. Uncomplicated.
- Hose: quick connection, seconds.
- Tilt bearing: requires head opening, 30-45 minutes.
Engine block and main electronics are service territory: do not open sealed engine on your own.
is it worth repairing an old Hayward or is it better to buy a new one?
Rule of thumb: if the sum of parts to be replaced + possible service exceeds 50% of the price of the equivalent new model, it usually pays more to buy new. Cases where it always pays to repair: consumables replacement (filter, belt, roller, skids) for less than 150 €. Case where it rarely pays off in electrical: engine block breakdown (which can go to 800+ €). Case where it almost always pays off: repair of hydraulics (Navigator), because spare parts are cheap and robots are very durable.
do Hayward refills work with salt chlorination?
Yes, the entire line of original spare parts Hayward is compatible with pools treated with saline chlorination in normal residential concentrations (3-6 g/l). The filter element materials, rollers, wheels and seals are selected to resist chlorine and salt. As with any robot: rinsing with fresh water after each use visibly prolongs the actual life of the consumables. Special attention for electrical consumables: crystallized salt on the cable connector is a frequent cause of power loss.

Hayward and its two families of cleaners
Hayward is one of the reference brands in residential pool cleaners, with two parallel technologies in its catalog:
- Corded electric pool cleaners (TigerShark, AquaVAC, eVAC, AquaShark range): complete robots with their own motor, external transformer and internal filtration. They cover floor, walls and waterline according to model.
- Hydraulic suction cleaners (Navigator range, Poolvac V-Flex): they are connected to the skimmer or to the pool pump and work with the hydraulic flow, without their own electric motor. More economical and robust maintenance.
Each family has a different wear pattern and therefore different critical parts. Before ordering, identifies if your Hayward is electric or hydraulic and consult the correct sub-category.
How to identify your model Hayward before ordering replacement
Spare parts Hayward are model-specific. A TigerShark filter element does not fit an AquaVAC Drive, an eVAC belt is not the same as a TigerShark 2, a Navigator cork skid does not fit the Poolvac V-Flex.
How to locate the exact model:
- Robot labelOn the housing there is a sticker with the complete trade name and serial number.
- Original box or manualIf you keep them, the model is highlighted.
- Power box / transformerOn electric models, it carries the code of the robot to which it belongs.
- Invoice of purchaseWith the complete trade name.
If the robot has been in use for years and the label is illegible, send photos of the chassis, head and transformer to technical team of QuimipoolShapes and casings Hayward allow the model to be visually identified even if there is no label.

Types of spare parts depending on your technology Hayward
Critical parts change depending on whether your Hayward is electric or hydraulic.
If your robot is electric (TigerShark, AquaVAC, eVAC, AquaShark)
The most frequently replaced parts are:
- Complete filter element: Highest rotating part. Shared between several models (TigerShark, AquaShark, AquaVAC 300, AquaVAC Drive, AquaVAC QC, TigerShark QC, TigerShark 2). It is changed every 1-2 seasons.
- Track beltTrack-driven models, it is replaced every 3-5 seasons.
- Track bearing / steering bearingMechanical internal parts, are replaced if they make noise or get stuck.
- Roller + foam setThe foam peels off with use, the complete assembly should be replaced.
- TurbineInternal part that generates the suction, long life but breaks if a hard object enters.
- Venturi Adapter / ReducerAquaVAC: specific to some AquaVAC models.
- Complete diffuser set: internal part of the internal hydraulic circuit of the robot.
- RC Power BoxExternal transformer. Very long life, it is replaced only if it fails.
- Engine blockMajor failure, complete replacement of the sealed motor.
- Handle (new model)The robot's transport part occasionally breaks.
If your robot is hydraulic (Navigator, Poolvac V-Flex)
The critical parts are different:
- Cork skate (pack of 4 units)The most rotating part, compatible with Navigator, Navigator Pro, Navigator V-Flex and Poolvac V-Flex. Specially recommended for liner pools. It is replaced when it becomes visibly worn or when the robot starts to slip.
- Swingarm bearing assemblyInternal part that allows the characteristic movement of the Navigator. It is replaced in case of looseness or noise.
- Suction hoseTubes that connect the robot to the skimmer.
- Turbine diaphragmInternal part that regulates the suction flow rate.
Maintenance that reduces the frequency of changes
Cleaning of the filter/filter element after each cycle. It is the factor that most influences the service life of the entire chain (motor, turbine, bearings). A saturated filter forces the motor to suck against resistance and accelerates wear.
Do not leave the robot in the sun between uses. UV rays degrade plastics and rubber much faster than water. Remove the robot from the glass after the cycle and store in the shade.
Preventive review at the end of the season. Check filter element, belts, bearings, cable and connector. Replace what is already worn out instead of waiting until next summer.
Cable connector to the power box (electric models). Rust reduces power and makes it appear that the motor is failing when the problem is the electrical contact. Check visually every season and clean with electrical contact if there is verdigris.
On hydraulics (Navigator, Poolvac V-Flex): keep an eye on the cork skids. When they start to deform or peel, the robot skids and cleans poorly. Replacing the 4-pack in time avoids premature wear of other parts.
Basic diagnostics before purchasing the spare part
| Symptom | Most probable cause | Candidate piece |
|---|---|---|
| Electric: Does not turn on | Power box or cable connector | Try another box; check connector |
| Electric: Turns on but does not move | Broken belt (tracked models) or traction motor | Belt if motor rotates; service if motor does not rotate |
| Electric: Moves but does not aspirate | Saturated filter element or clogged turbine | Clean/change filter; check turbine |
| Electric: Noise when moving | Worn track or steering bearings | Bearings |
| Electric: Skates on the bottom | Roller + worn foam assembly | Roller + foam set |
| Hydraulic: Does not move | Turbine diaphragm or pump flow problem | Check flow rate; check diaphragm |
| Hydraulic: Skids or does not grip | Worn cork skates | Cork skates (pack 4) |
| Hydraulic: Slack in the movement | Swivel bearing with wear | Swingarm bearing assembly |
If, after replacing the suspect part, the problem persists, the official technical service can value the equipment.
