Questions and answers
what type of dosing device is best suited for my pool: floating, in-line or off-line?
Floating:
- Economical and easy to use.
- Ideal for small or removable pools. The tablets dissolve directly in the water.
- Advantage: No installation required.
- Disadvantage: Less control over dosage.
In-line:
- Installed directly into the water return pipe.
- It is more durable and allows a constant dosage.
- Advantage: Integrated in the filtration system, higher precision.
- Disadvantage: Requires technical installation.
We recommend Off-line by-pass installation:
- Similar to in-line, but connects via a mounting kit. Ideal when the main piping cannot be modified.
- Advantage: Easy maintenance without stopping the filtration system.
what is the capacity of the dispenser and how many tablets can it hold?
It is measured per kg . The larger the size of the pool, the greater the capacity of the dispenser
what regulation system is included in the dispenser?
Most in-line and off-line proportioners have regulating valves to adjust the flow rate:
Adjustable inlet and outlet to control how much water passes through the proportioner.
This allows the amount of chemical released into the water to be adjusted according to specific needs. Floaters usually have adjustable openings in their base to regulate dilution.
is the dispenser easy to install?
- Floating: No installation required; simply placed in the water.
- In-line: Installation in the main pipe of the return system. May require cutting and joining pipes with PVC glue.
- Off-line: Installation through a bypass with flexible pipes. Easier if you do not want to modify the main piping.
For in-line and off-line systems, it may be necessary to hire a technician if you do not have plumbing experience.
what maintenance does the dispenser require?
Maintenance includes:
- Periodic cleaning of the interior to avoid obstructions by chemical residues.
- Revision of valves and gaskets every few months.
- Replacing worn components such as O-rings if necessary.
- Floats require less maintenance, but should be checked regularly to ensure that the pads do not clog.
is it compatible with my current filtration system?
For in-line and off-line models: Check the dimensions of the tubing (usually Ø32 mm or Ø38 mm). Make sure it is compatible with your current pump and filter. If in doubt, consult the equipment manufacturer or distributor.
does the dispenser include additional accessories such as adapters or valves?
Some models include: Regulating valves Adapters for different pipe diameters Special keys to open the dispenser If they are not included, check if you need to purchase them separately.
is it possible to automate the system with an additional controller?
Yes, you need a solenoid valve and an ORP controller. This is ideal for large or commercial pools where constant control is required.
what is the appropriate capacity?
- Dossi-3: up to 3.5 kg (60 m³ chlorine / 30 m³ bromine)
- Dossi-5/10: up to 5/10 kg (bromine only)
- Clorimax: 20-30 kg (by-pass installation, large pools)
Swimming Pool Pill Dispensers: Effective Solution for Always Clean and Safe Water
When we talk about pool water maintenance, we often focus on chemicals, pH or filtration, but there is one accessory that goes unnoticed and can make the owner's job much easier: the chlorine tablet dispenser.
what is a tablet dispenser?
The tablet dispenser is a simple, inexpensive and very reliable system designed to maintain a constant chlorine level in the pool water without the need to manually replace tablets every few days.
It consists of a sturdy plastic tank (usually installed in the return of the filtration system) that is filled with trichlorine tablets. Through a manual valve, the flow of water through the tank is regulated, gradually dissolving the tablets and releasing the chlorine into the water.
Important: multifunctional tablets should not be used in this type of dispenser, as their components can release chemicals that are incompatible with a controlled dissolution
why is it a practical solution?
- Autonomy: it allows you to forget about chlorine for weeks. Ideal for owners who only use the pool on weekends or in second homes.
- It avoids the use of the skimmer as a tablet dispenser, something very common but not recommended, as it can damage the internal plastics due to the high concentration of chlorine in that area.
- Constant and homogeneous dosing: it maintains a more stable level of disinfectant in the water, helping to avoid chlorine peaks or drops.
where to install it?
The doser is installed in line, after the filter and the heating equipment (if any), before the water returns to the pool. Installation is simple. Check the installation manuals
Recommendations for use
- Use only slow dissolving trichlor tablets.
- Check the tablet level every 2-3 weeks, depending on the size of the dispenser and pool usage.
- Adjust the flow valve according to chlorine demand (more in summer, less in spring or fall).
- Perform periodic free chlorine checks with a test kit to adjust dosing if necessary.
who is it ideal for?
- Pools for occasional use (cottages, second homes).
- Owners who do not want to be concerned with daily maintenance.
- Systems where an economical and durable alternative to salt chlorination or automatic dosing systems is sought.
Types of chlorine dosing systems for swimming pools
Within the range of tablet dosing systems, we can clearly differentiate between two main categories: dosing systems with installation and dosing systems without installation.
The choice between one or the other will depend on the type of pool, the frequency of use and the desired level of automation
1. Dosing units with installation
These models require a small amount of plumbing work to be incorporated into the pool's purification system. They are divided into two types:
(a) In-line dispensers
- They are installed directly in the return line of the hydraulic system, just after the filter and (if applicable) the heat exchanger or heat pump.
- They require cutting the pipe and inserting the in-line proportioner.
- Recommendation: it is always convenient to install it with a bypass, which allows isolating the proportioner for maintenance without affecting the rest of the system.
b) Offline dispensers
- They are connected by means of external accessories (fittings, hoses) to the return circuit, but without cutting the main pipe.
- They offer a simpler and more flexible installation, especially in existing systems where the circuit does not need to be modified.
- They can also be installed with bypass for greater convenience.
2. Non-installed (floating) dispensers
- These are the typical floating chlorine dispensers, made of chemical resistant plastic.
- They are inserted directly into the pool tank with trichlor tablets (usually 200g).
- They have a regulating wheel at the base to adjust the dissolution speed.
- They are ideal for above ground pools, small private pools or for homeowners looking for a temporary and uncomplicated solution.
- Tip: it is important to remove the floating dispenser when people swim, to avoid direct contact with the concentrated chlorine.
Featured compatible models
Dossi-3 (in-line/off-line):
3.5 kg capacity, single regulation valve, double safety lock.
Dossi-5 / Dossi-10:
5 and 10 kg capacity respectively, independent inlet/outlet valves.
Clorimax:
20 to 30 kg capacity, ideal for large pools, with automatic safety valve.
Recommendations for use and maintenance
- Only use slow dissolving tablets (Trichlor or Bromine).
- Never use powder or granulated products.
- Control the levels of chlorine/bromine in the water (0.5-2 ppm for chlorine, 1-3 ppm for bromine).
- Open and check the dispenser every 7-10 days.
Key technical concepts explained
- Adjustable dosing: Possibility to manually or automatically adjust the amount of chemical released, to adapt to changing needs.
- Chlorine and bromine in tablets: Compact chemicals that dissolve slowly, providing continuous and effective disinfection.
- In-line installation: Placement of the dosing unit directly in the filtration circuit, providing a better distribution of chemicals in larger pools.
