Replacement Parts for the Hayward Powerline Plus II Pump: Prefilter, Impeller, and Genuine Parts
The Hayward Powerline Plus II is a self-priming centrifugal pump for residential swimming pools, distributed by the American multinational Hayward Industries. Its hydraulic design is identical to that of the PowerFlo II, the StarPump, the StarPump II, and the current MaxFlo, allowing for a direct replacement without modifying the piping or the machine room foundation.
Although the Powerline Plus II was discontinued some time ago and replaced by the MaxFlo as the current commercial model, there is a large installed base, and original replacement parts are still available. At Quimipool, you can find the most common parts as well as those specific to each power rating.
It features an AISI 304 stainless steel mechanical seal compatible with salt chlorination, a 1-liter pre-filter with a transparent lid, and a Noryl impeller. Replacing parts is especially easy because all components are shared with the sister lines PowerFlo II, StarPump, and MaxFlo: the part you need is available even if your pump is “older.”

Hayward Genuine Replacement Parts for the Powerline Plus II
The spare parts catalog is organized into four functional categories: prefilter (highest turnover), hydraulic housing (seals), impeller (specific to power rating), and mechanical seal and plate.
Remember: the parts list is shared with the PowerFlo II, StarPump, StarPump II, and MaxFlo. Any part number you find for your Powerline Plus II is also valid for these sister models.
Pre-filter: High-turnover consumables
| Replacement Part | Description | When to replace |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-filter basket | Plastic basket that traps debris before it reaches the turbine. The best-selling replacement part for this model. | Clean frequently. Replace if there are cracks or deformations that allow debris to pass through to the turbine. |
| Pre-filter Cover | Transparent cover providing access to the basket. Compatible with PowerFlo II, StarPump, and MaxFlo. | Replace if there are cracks or if the pump loses priming around the pre-filter area. |
| Pre-filter Cover Gasket | O-ring seal for the pre-filter cover. | Replace if there is any leakage in the prefilter area. Apply silicone grease during installation. |
| Ball joint + wing nut | Pre-filter cover fastening system (butterfly closure). | Replace if the opening mechanism is damaged and does not allow for a tight seal. |
| Drain plug | Drain plug for the pump housing. | Open at the end of the season to drain the water and prevent ice damage. Replace if it is no longer watertight. |
Hydraulic housing: diffuser and gaskets
| Replacement part | Description | When to replace |
|---|---|---|
| Diffuser | A component of the hydraulic assembly that optimizes flow between the impeller and the discharge outlet. | Replace if there is a persistent loss of flow or cavitation noise that cannot be resolved by cleaning the prefilter. |
| Diffuser Gasket | Seal between the diffuser and the housing. | Replace if there are internal leaks in the hydraulic housing. |
| Casing Gasket | Flat seal for the pump housing. | Replace if there are visible leaks between the hydraulic housing and the motor. |
Impeller: specific to power rating
This section requires special attention: the impeller is different for each power rating and the impellers are not interchangeable.
| Replacement | Compatible with | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 0.75 CV Turbine | 0.75 CV modelONLY | Check the power rating on the motor nameplate before ordering. |
| 1.1 CV turbine | ONLY 1.1 CV model | Check the power rating on the motor nameplate before ordering. |
| 1.5 CV turbine | 1.5 CV modelONLY | Check the power rating on the motor nameplate before ordering. |
Mechanical seal and impeller
| Replacement part | Description | When to replace |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanical seal | AISI 304 stainless steel seal, compatible with salt chlorination. Prevents leaks between the motor shaft and the hydraulic housing. | Replace if visible leaks are present at the bottom of the pump (between the housing and the motor). Requires proper disassembly and alignment. |
| Seal Plate | Support plate for the mechanical seal. | Replace along with the seal if the plate shows visible wear, corrosion, or grooves. |
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Probable Cause | Part to Check | Urgency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leak under the pump (between the housing and the motor) | Worn mechanical seal | Mechanical seal + seal plate | High |
| Leak in the prefilter | Damaged gasket or cracked cover | Cover gasket or entire cover | High |
| The pump fails to prime (loses suction) | Crack in the prefilter cover or body, or damaged cover gasket | Cover + prefilter gasket | High |
| Reduced flow | Dirty strainer basket or worn impeller | Clean the basket first; if the problem persists, replace the impeller according to the CV | Medium |
| Unusual noise or vibrations | Damaged impeller or cavitation due to a clogged prefilter | Clean the basket first; if the problem persists, check the impeller | Medium |
| Gradual pressure loss during the season | Worn diffuser gasket | Diffuser gasket | Moderate |
| The cover does not close properly | Damaged ball joint/wing screw | Ball joint + wing screw | Low |
Expanded compatibility: Powerline Plus II, PowerFlo II, StarPump, and MaxFlo
One of the great advantages of the Hayward line is that four models share virtually the same set of replacement parts:
- Powerline Plus II (discontinued, in this catalog)
- PowerFlo II (discontinued)
- StarPump / StarPump II (discontinued)
- Hayward MaxFlo (current model)
This has two practical implications:
- If your Powerline Plus II needs to be completely replaced, the MaxFlo is its direct successor: same dimensions, same connections (1.5″ threads with 50 mm adapters), same mounting base. It can be installed without any plumbing work.
- When you search for a replacement by part number, it will appear in the compatibility lists for all these models. Don’t be alarmed if the shopping cart listing says “compatible with PowerFlo II, StarPump, and MaxFlo”—it’s the same part.
For the complete catalog of pumps, see pool pumps, or specifically Hayward. For installations with salt chlorination where the Powerline Plus II is a perfect fit due to its AISI 304 seal, check out salt chlorinators at Hayward.
Preventive Maintenance
Four basic rules that extend the service life of the mechanical seal and the impeller—the two most expensive components to replace:
- Cleaning the basket: Empty and clean the pre-filter basket every 1–2 weeks during peak season. A clogged basket reduces flow, causes cavitation in the turbine, and overheats the motor.
- Seal lubrication: When removing the pre-filter cover, apply a specific silicone grease to the O-ring. Never use mineral grease: it degrades the rubber within weeks.
- Draining for winter storage: At the end of the season, open the drain plug on the pump body. Standing water freezes in winter and can crack the pump body.
- Do not run dry: Do not operate the pump without water, even for a few seconds. The AISI 304 mechanical seal is lubricated by the water itself and will quickly fail if run dry.
