The Astralpool Aster 99 is a sand filter for swimming pools with an important differential feature: screwless cover. While other filters in the range Astralpool (Star Plus, Ice, Mulhacen, Victoria, Vesuvius, Volcano) use a screwed cover with fixing ring and screws aster series (Aster, Aster 99) and their boltless siblings (Delta, Norma, Rapid-Pool, Uve) employ a quick locking system which simplifies maintenance.

How to tell if you have Aster, Aster 99, Ice or a screw-in family filter

Key visual differences to avoid making mistakes when ordering spare parts:

Boltless family (Aster, Aster 99, Delta, Norma, Rapid-Pool, Uve, Ice)

When to replace each part - actual symptoms

Maintenance that extends the life of your Aster 99

Regular flushing when the pressure gauge rises 0.3-0.5 bar above the clean pressure. Each filter has a normal working pressure (usually between 0.5 and 0.8 bar clean). When it rises above 0.3-0.5 bar, it is time to wash (valve on "Backwash" for 2-3 minutes, then "Rinse" for 30 seconds, back to "Filter"). Do not wait for pressures of 1.5-2 bar: it stresses the internal parts and the cover gasket.

Smooth opening/closing of the lid without screws. The Aster 99's quick-closing system benefits greatly from careful use: do not force the opening if it is struggling, check that there is no residue on the locking ring, apply a small amount of lubricant suitable for EPDM seals on the Rapid cover gasket every 1-2 years. Forcing the seal closed with extra leverage deforms the gasket (the most rotating part) and can crack the neck ring assembly.

Replacement of sand/filter glass every 4-7 years. Silica sand has a useful life of 4-5 years; filter glass has a useful life of 6-8 years. After this time, the grains lose their retention capacity. Symptom: pressure does not drop to the previous clean level after flushing.

Visual check of the pressure gauge and valve at the beginning of each season. Pressure gauge does not mark or remains fixed at zero → replacement. Selector valve with hard handle or leaking from the drain (continuous trickle of water in leakage) → check star valve seal.

Winter storage in areas with frost. Partially empty the filter body or leave the selector valve on "Winter" to prevent frozen water from cracking internal parts. Slightly loosening the cover (without removing it) reduces internal pressure during winterizing.
