Questions and answers
Which is the best-selling Astralpool filter?
The Star Plus 600 (€369, on sale and a top seller) is the best-selling model in the entire Astralpool range at Quimipool. It covers the most common size range for Spanish family pools (50–80 m³), comes with a 6-way selector valve included, and combines polyester with good value for money.
Unless you have specific reasons to upgrade to premium ranges like Berlin or Cantabric, the Star Plus 600 is the default choice that any installer would recommend.
What is the difference between laminated polyester and wound polyester?
Two manufacturing techniques with different performance characteristics:
- Laminated polyester: constructed from overlapping layers of fiberglass-reinforced polyester. Standard technique, good strength, estimated service life of 15–25 years.
- Wound polyester: manufactured by winding continuous polyester filament around the body. Superior mechanical structure, estimated service life of 20–30 years, much more resistant to high pressure and chemical abrasion.
In the catalog Astralpool:
Which Astralpool filter should I choose if I already have an Espa or Hayward pump?
The brand of the existing pump does not determine the choice of filter: any Astralpool filter works perfectly with pumps Espa, Hayward, Kripsol, Zodiac, QP, or any other standard brand on the market.
What matters is flow rate compatibility:
- The filter’s nominal flow rate must be equal to or slightly higher than that of your existing pump
- Never lower
If your pump has a flow rate of 14 m³/h, look for Astralpool models with a flow rate of 14–16 m³/h (Star Plus 600, Aster 99 600). Check the flow rate on your pump’s nameplate before making your selection.
What is the availability of replacement parts at Astralpool?
The best on the Spanish market. Astralpool keeps virtually all original replacement parts in stock at all times:
- Collector arms and diffusers
- Covers and support feet
- Air vents
- Complete selector valves
- O-rings and flanges
- Pre-filter baskets and fasteners
- Pressure gauges
Quimipool, as an authorized distributor, guarantees delivery within 24–48 hours of any standard Astralpool replacement part through the water treatment and valve replacement parts section.
Active product lines (Star Plus, Berlin, Vesubio, Cantabric) are in stock; discontinued product lines may require a special order. For specific parts, contact technical support.
When should you choose Vesubio over Star Plus or Cantabric?
Vesubio is Astralpool 's most versatile product line, positioned in the mid-to-high range between Star Plus and Cantabric.
Choose Vesubio over Star Plus if:
- You want a better body (more robust laminated polyester)
- You need diameters that Star Plus doesn’t cover (D.1050 mm)
Choose Vesubio over Cantabric if price is a concern:
- Vesubio 900: €1,195
- Cantabric 900: €1,299
For standard residential use, the technical difference between laminated and wound construction is negligible. Cantabric is only worth it if your pool sees very heavy use (vacation rentals, small community) or if you want equipment “that will last for the next 25 years.”
Does the selector valve come standard on all Astralpool models?
Not all of them. Some models come "complete" with the valve included:
- Berlin "with Selector Valve"
- Vesubio "with Side Valve"
- Many Star Plus models
Others are sold without a valve, and you have to buy it separately:
- Some M-3000
- Specific Aster configurations
- Skypool Industrial
This is clearly indicated on each product page. If you want to keep it simple, look specifically for the filter "with valve" or "with selector valve" in the name. The 6-way side valve is the standard; if you opt for models without a valve, you can purchase selector valves individually.
Which Astralpool is suitable for public or hotel pools?
The ranges designed for intensive public use are:
- Vesubio (D.900 and D.1050)
- Cantabric (D.900)
- Berlin 750
- Skypool
For standard community pools of 200–400 m³ with moderate use, the Vesubio 1050 or Cantabric 900 are suitable. For hotels, sports centers, or public facilities with continuous use, the appropriate choice is to use specific industrial filters.
Public use also requires compliance with the following regulation:
- RD 742/2013 (national)
- Specific regional regulations
- Filtration flow rate requirements and logbook
It is advisable to verify these requirements before purchasing. For inquiries, contact technical support.
Can I replace the sand with filter media in an Astralpool filter?
Yes, all Astralpool filters are compatible with recycled filter media. The conversion is straightforward:
- Empty out the old sand
- Clean the inside of the filter and the internal screens (collector arms)
- Fill with filter glass in a quantity slightly less than that of sand (80% of the weight, because glass has a lower density)
Advantages of glass:
- Filters more finely: 15–25 microns compared to 25–40 microns for sand
- Lasts twice as long: 8–12 years
- It does not compact over time
After the change, it is advisable to readjust the pump settings because the glass offers less resistance to water flow. Complete catalog of filter media and more details in the filter media comparison.
Why are there so many different filters in the Astralpool catalog?
Astralpool is a multinational company with a presence in a wide range of markets (residential, communities, hotels, public sector, industrial). Each sub-line caters to a specific niche:
- M-3000: entry-level
- Star Plus: standard residential
- Aster: low-ceilinged units
- Berlin: premium residential with valve included
- Vesubio: Scaling from residential to semi-industrial
- Cantabric: luxury residential
- Skypool: collective
- Certikin Florida: British market
The wide range offers flexibility but also makes the choice more difficult. For standard family pools, 90% of cases are solved with the Star Plus 600, Aster 99 600, or Berlin 600. If your situation is more specific, call 91 128 55 90 and we’ll guide you to the exact model.
Astralpool Pool Filters: The widest range on the market Fluidra
Astralpool is the global benchmark in pool equipment and, within the Fluidra group, serves as the flagship brand for a wide range of products for both residential and professional markets. When it comes to sand filters for swimming pools, its catalog is unmatched: 10 different sub-lines (Star Plus, Ice/Aster, Millenium, M-3000, Berlin, Vesubio, Cantabric, Aster, Certikin Florida, Skypool) that cover the entire filtration range, from small residential pools (400 mm diameter, 0.33 HP pump) to semi-industrial installations (1,200 mm, 3 HP), with four different types of construction materials and a total of 30 models in stock.
This breadth of the range is both the greatest advantage and the greatest challenge of Astralpool. An advantage because every project can find its filter at Astralpool: family pools, community pools, hotel pools, sports centers, indoor natural pools, or public facilities. A challenge because choosing among 10 product lines isn’t easy if you’re not familiar with the industry. Here, I’ll help you understand the options so you can choose the model that truly suits you, not just the first one you come across.
Why Astralpool and for whom
Three features make Astralpool a unique offering:
- The widest range on the market. 30 products across 10 sub-lines made from different materials (laminated polyester, wound polyester, injection-molded plastic, blow-molded plastic). If any brand can cover everything from a small family pool to a municipal sports complex, it’s Astralpool. And stock availability is the best on the Spanish market: whatever you order, we have it.
- Integrated Fluidra ecosystem. The Astralpool filter fits perfectly with the rest of Fluidra’s equipment: pumps Astralpool, salt chlorinators Astralpool, heat pumps, heaters, dosing pumps, and photometers. If the entire equipment room is Astralpool, after-sales service, spare parts, and the warranty all follow a single approach.
- Extensive sales network and spare parts always in stock. Astralpool is likely the brand with the best spare parts availability in the industry at Espa: manifold arms, diffusers, covers, selector valves, O-rings, pressure gauges, pre-filter baskets—all permanently in stock through authorized distributors such as Quimipool.
It is the natural choice for medium-to-large residential pools seeking an established brand with guaranteed after-sales service, comprehensive projects where the entire pool is equipped with consistent Fluidra products, community pools, and small public facilities (the Vesubio, Cantabric, and Skypool ranges extend up to semi-industrial sizes), and professional installers who value immediate availability of spare parts and a well-structured catalog.
The 10 sub-lines Astralpool: quick guide
To make your choice easier, I’ve organized the catalog into four groups based on positioning:
Group 1: Economy/entry-level (injection-molded plastic)
The M-3000 is Astralpool ’s budget-friendly range. Small-to-medium-sized injection-molded plastic filters with two valve options (TOP: top-mounted or side-mounted). It covers pools up to 60–70 m³ with flow rates of 7–12 m³/h. It is the Astralpool equivalent of the Coral Neptuno: low price, basic features, backed by brand quality.
Featured M-3000 models: - M-3000 430 TOP (€269) — entry-level, top valve, 7 m³/h - M-3000 480 TOP (€269) — 8 m³/h - M-3000 560 TOP (€329) — 11 m³/h - M-3000 430 side (€295) — side valve - M-3000 480 side (€299) — side valve - M-3000 560 side (€319) — side valve
Group 2: Standard Residential (Blown Plastic and Polyester)
Star Plus is the best-selling standard range. The Star Plus 600 (€369) is the top seller across the entire Astralpool filter line and the default choice for family pools of 50–80 m³. Available in diameters of 450, 500, 600, 750, and 900 mm; prices range from €359 to €969.
Aster and Ice/Aster 99 are alternative lines to Star Plus featuring improved materials (laminated polyester), a lower profile, and a design optimized for installation in pool houses with low ceilings. The Aster 99 D.600 is priced at €389, and the D.750 at €719.
Millennium is Astralpool ’s classic line of laminated filters, offering a balance of durability and price for standard residential pools.
Group 3: Mid-to-high-end residential (laminated polyester with valve included)
Berlin is Astralpool ’s mid-to-high-end range. Laminated polyester with a 6-way selector valve already included from the factory (you don’t have to buy it separately) and sized for medium-to-large pools. Three models: - Berlin 500 with valve (€659) — 11 m³/h, 1 HP recommended - Berlin 600 with valve (€765) — 14 m³/h, 1.5 HP recommended - Berlin 750 with valve (€1,352) — 22 m³/h, 2 HP recommended
Vesuvio is probably the most versatile range in the catalog. Diameters from 450 mm to 1,050 mm (scalable to semi-industrial), side valve included. The D.450 is priced at €475; the D.1050 goes up to €1,559. For large residential pools (120–200 m³) or small community pools, the Vesubio D.900 (€1,195) likely offers the best value for money and versatility in the Astralpool catalog.
Cantabric is the luxury line. Body made of high-strength wound polyester, generously sized. The Cantabric 600 (€539) and the Cantabric 900 (€1,299) are the two models in the catalog: if the customer wants “the best” in a premium family pool, this is the filter.
Group 4: Semi-industrial and Specialties
Skypool is the range designed for community pools and small public facilities. Engineered for continuous, intensive use.
Certikin Florida is a specific line from Certikin (also part of the Fluidra group) distributed by Astralpool, featuring a lower profile and targeting the British market.
Manufacturing materials: why it matters
Astralpool filters are constructed from four different types of materials, each with its own pros and cons:
- Injection-molded plastic (M-3000): the most economical option. Reasonably sturdy for standard household use. Sensitive to direct UV sunlight over time; best suited for a covered shed.
- Blow-molded plastic (some Star Plus models): a technique that falls between injection-molded and polyester. Uniform finish and decent mechanical strength.
- Laminated polyester (Star Plus, Aster, Berlin, Vesubio, Millenium): the most common option in the mid-to-high range. Body constructed from layers of fiberglass-reinforced polyester. Extremely high resistance to UV rays, impacts, and chemical abrasion. Estimated lifespan of 15–25 years. This is what you’d want for an outdoor pool in a sunny area.
- Wound polyester (Cantabric and some Skypool models): a premium manufacturing technique. The polyester is wound in a continuous coil over the shell, forming a mechanically superior structure. The most robust option on the market, comparable to industrial filters. Estimated lifespan of 20–30 years with normal maintenance.
For medium-sized residential pools, laminated polyester is the technical-economic sweet spot. You should only opt for wound polyester if your installation has high demands (community pool, intensive vacation rental, small hotel).
How to size the filter Astralpool: rule of thumb
Quick rule of thumb based on pool volume:
| Pool volume | Filtration flow rate | Recommended Astralpool model |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 30 m³ | 5–7 m³/h | M-3000 430 / Star Plus 450 |
| 30–50 m³ | 8–11 m³/h | M-3000 560 / Star Plus 500 |
| 50–80 m³ | 12–15 m³/h | Star Plus 600 (Top Seller) / Aster 99 600 |
| 80–120 m³ | 16–22 m³/h | Star Plus 750 / Berlin 600 / Vesubio 750 |
| 120–180 m³ | 25–32 m³/h | Star Plus 900 / Vesubio 900 / Cantabric 900 |
| 180–300 m³ | 35–45 m³/h | Berlin 750 / Vesubio 1050 |
| 300+ m³ (community) | 50+ m³/h | Skypool / industrial filters |
Step it up a notch in warm regions (Andalusia, Levante), with a slatted cover that extends the season, high swimmer traffic, or nearby trees. Filtering with extra capacity extends the time between backwashes and reduces wear on the sand filter media.
Compatibility with Astralpool pumps and other brands
Astralpool filters are compatible with any standard pump on the market within the corresponding flow range. Since they are already in the Fluidra catalog, they are naturally compatible with Astralpool pumps, but they work just as well with:
- Espa pumps (Catalan-made, high quality)
- Hayward pumps (Super Pump, Max Flo)
- Kripsol pumps (value for money)
- Zodiac Pumps (part of Fluidra, such as Astralpool)
- Productos QP Pumps (economical)
- Variable-speed pumps (consume much less power at low speeds)
If your pool has a salt chlorinator (any brand: Astralpool, Innowater, Hayward, Zodiac, Sugar Valley…), it’s best to opt for a variable-speed pump and configure the filter to run for many hours at low speed: the chlorinator works better with continuous flow than with high peaks.
Astralpool compared to other filter brands
Every brand has its place:
- Astralpool it offers the widest range on the market with 10 sub-lines, a variety of materials, and the best spare parts availability in the industry. For medium-to-large pools and comprehensive projects using the Fluidra ecosystem, it’s the natural choice.
- Coral is the classic Spanish brand with three distinct ranges (Neptuno/Alaska/Series 92) and a simpler catalog. A good alternative for standard residential pools at a more affordable price.
- Productos QPCoral ’s own budget-friendly brand, with prices even lower than Neptuno or Astralpool M-3000.
- Hayward is the American multinational with well-known lines such as Star Clear and ProSeries Plus, also a leader in cartridge filters as well as sand filters.
- ESPA is the Catalan brand that combines filters with its pumps, a logical choice if you already have Espa equipment installed.
If your priority is immediate availability of replacement parts and a dense sales network, Astralpool is hard to beat. If you value lower prices without sacrificing brand quality, Coral. If you need the most budget-friendly options, Productos QP. For semi-industrial or community pools, Astralpool Vesubio, Cantabric, or Skypool are the most comprehensive options in the catalog Quimipool.
For replacement parts, check out the pool filter replacement catalog, and specifically for Astralpool, availability is the best on the market: manifold arms, diffusers, covers, selector valves, gaskets, pre-filter baskets—all genuine. For selector valves and their replacement parts, click here and here. If you’re interested in a quick, complete installation, the filtration packs combine a filter + pump + accessories at the best combined price.
Filter media: sand, glass, or zeolite
