Questions and answers

how many skimmers does my pool need?

The quantity depends on the size and shape of the pool. As a reference, it is recommended to install one skimmer for every 25 m² of water surface. In large or irregularly shaped pools, several may be necessary to ensure uniform cleaning.

The essential component for efficient and continuous cleaning

Pool skimmers are essential devices in any pool filtration system. Their main function is to capture surface dirt - such as leaves, insects, oils and other debris - before it sinks to the bottom. This mechanism not only keeps the water clean and healthy, but also optimizes the performance of the purification system, reducing the need for frequent deep cleaning.

why choose pool skimmers?

  • They improve water circulation, avoiding stagnation that favors the appearance of algae.
  • They facilitate daily maintenance, trapping the most common dirt continuously.
  • They are easy to maintain, and include removable baskets that can be cleaned in seconds.

how do skimmers work?

The skimmer acts as the first stage of water filtration. It is installed on the pool wall, at water level, and is connected to the purification system. Through its mouth, the water is gently sucked into an internal basket where floating debris is trapped. Subsequently, the water continues its journey to the main filter, free of coarse impurities.

Some models include floating gates (also called "flaps") that regulate the water inlet and prevent debris from flowing back out once inside.

Main characteristics of skimmers

  • Resistant materials: PVC, ABS or stainless steel, designed to withstand continuous exposure to sun, chlorine and chemicals.
  • Compatibility with pool types: there are models specifically designed for in-ground, prefabricated, liner or removable pools.
  • Mouth size: standard or wide mouth, depending on the required flow rate and the surface to be covered.
  • Designs with easy-access top cover, to facilitate waste removal.

Skimmer Comparison

Buying Guide: What is the best skimmer for you?

Depending on the type of pool:

  • In-ground pools: opt for ABS built-in skimmers with a standard or wide mouth depending on the volume of water.
  • Liner or prefabricated pools: be sure to choose models compatible with the liner attachment system.
  • Demountable pools: floating or hanging skimmers are the ideal choice, as they do not require fixed installation.

Depending on the use:

  • Frequent residential use: a basic skimmer with a large capacity basket is more than sufficient.
  • Areas with a lot of vegetation: we recommend wide mouths for greater collection efficiency.
  • High design projects: opt for stainless steel models, which combine functionality and aesthetics.
  • Color: nowadays you can also find skimmers in different colors to better integrate with the design of the pool.

Technical terms you should know

  • Wide mouth: larger opening design that allows for greater water and debris collection.
  • Flap or floating gate: prevents waste from returning to the pool when the pump is turned off.
  • Collection basket: internal container where the captured floating waste is stored.
