Preventive maintenance of the SilenPlus Espa

Five basic rules to extend the service life of the mechanical seal and the turbine:

• Cleaning the strainer basket: Empty and clean the pre-filter strainer basket periodically. The frequency depends on usage: every 1–2 weeks during peak season, more often if a manual pool cleaner is used. A clogged strainer basket reduces flow and can cause cavitation in the turbine.
• Checking Seals at the Start of the Season: Before starting the pump each season, visually inspect the condition of the pre-filter seals. A cracked or flattened seal will cause loss of priming or leakage from the very first use.
• Seal lubrication: When replacing or inspecting O-rings, apply a silicone lubricant specifically designed for rubber. Never use petroleum-based oils: they degrade rubber within weeks.
• Proper winterization: At the end of the season, drain the water from the pump by opening the drain plugs. Standing water freezes in winter and can crack the pump housing.
• Never run the pump dry: Do not operate the pump without water, even for a few seconds. The mechanical seal is lubricated and cooled by the water itself and will be quickly destroyed if run dry.
