Preventive Maintenance for the Maxim Astralpool
The service life of a Maxim in public use (16–24 hours per day, 12 months per year) depends directly on the thoroughness of preventive maintenance. Five basic rules:
- Cleaning the basket: Empty and clean the prefilter basket at least once a week in public facilities. A clogged basket reduces flow, causes cavitation in the turbine, and drastically shortens the life of the mechanical seal.
- Inspect seals at the start of the season: Before starting the pump after any extended downtime, visually inspect the condition of all seals on the prefilter and the hydraulic housing. A cracked or flattened seal will cause loss of priming or leakage from the very first use.
- Seal lubrication: When replacing or inspecting O-rings, apply a silicone lubricant specifically designed for rubber. Never use petroleum-based oils: they degrade the rubber within weeks.
- Do not run dry: Do not operate the pump without water, not even for a few seconds. The mechanical seal is lubricated and cooled by the water itself and will be destroyed within minutes if run dry.
- Drain during prolonged shutdowns: If you plan to leave the system unused for weeks, open the drain plugs on the pump housing. This prevents water hammer damage when restarting the system and protects against freezing.
