Replacement Parts for the ESPA Tifón Pump: Complete Parts List with Prices

The Tifón is one of ESPA’s long-standing pool pumps: compact, with strong suction power, and still in use in thousands of residential pool filtration systems in Spain. The fact that it’s still running after so many years is impressive—and the fact that it can still be repaired is even more so.

Here is the complete parts list with prices, organized into four sections: pre-filter, connections, hydraulic housing, and motor. All genuine ESPA parts with the manufacturer’s official warranty—we are an ESPA E-Partner.

And an important note for a pump with such a long history: some parts vary depending on your unit’s generation. The pre-filter O-ring comes in old and new versions, and the mechanical seal was updated in 2007. Let’s look at those first.

Before ordering: the age of your Tifón matters

Two parts depend on your pump’s generation:

  • Pre-filter O-ring: there is an older version (€4.42) and a newer version (€5.90). Compare yours with the photos on the product page or measure its diameter before ordering
  • Mechanical seal: ESPA modified it in 2007. The replacement part on this page is for pumps from 2007 onward

Check the nameplate for the year or batch number. If you can’t determine the model year, send a photo of the nameplate and the open prefilter via the contact form, and we’ll confirm which version your pump has.

Zone 1 — Prefilter

Replacement Part Estimated Price When to replace
Prefilter O-ring (old version) €4.42 The number one cause of pumps that won’t prime: a worn O-ring lets air in even if not a single drop of water comes out. Version for the oldest Typhoon models.
O-ring €5.90 The latest version. Compare it with yours before ordering.
Tifón pre-filter basket €11.43 The basket that catches leaves and hair. The most frequently replaced part: it breaks when emptied in a hurry or cracks from sun exposure.
Pre-filter cover €10.08 The transparent lid. Replace if it is cloudy, cracked, or if the gasket seat is damaged.
Pre-filter Lock Nut €11.06 The threaded ring that secures the cover. Replace if the thread is stripped or cracked.
Pre-filter opening wrench €6.23 The official tool for opening without causing damage. Cheaper than replacing the cover, which can be damaged by prying it open with a screwdriver.

Zone 2 — Connections and Draining

Replacement Part Estimated price What it’s used for
Connection fitting with nut €9.90 The pipe connector with its nut.
Connection fitting gasket €1.89 If you notice a leak at the connection, start here: €1.89 compared to €9.90 for the complete fitting.
Drain plug €1.95 The one you open for winterization. It must close tightly.
O-ring for the plug €1.95 The seal. Replace it if you open the plug several seasons in a row.

Zone 3 — Hydraulic System

Replacement Part Estimated Price When to Replace
Mechanical seal (2007 and later) €28.50 The seal between the hydraulic system and the motor. If there’s a leak at the joint between the housing and the motor, it’s this part —and you shouldn’t let it go.
Diffuser gasket €2.90 Replace it whenever you open the housing.
Typhoon 1 Pump Housing (2007) €145.74 The complete hydraulic housing. The solution when the housing is cracked—typically due to ice after a winter without draining.

Zone 4 — Motor

Replacement Part Estimated Price When to Replace
25 mF capacitor €10.90 The one that provides the starting torque. Check that your pump uses a 25 mF capacitor by reading the old capacitor or the circuit board: never guess.
Fan €2.37 The cooling fan. If it’s broken, the motor overheats, causing the thermal fuse to trip.
Fan cover €3.94 The protective grille. Never run the pump without it: without the cover, air won’t circulate properly.

Quick Diagnosis: From Symptom to Part

Symptom Most Likely Cause Part to Check
Does not prime or loses prime Air entering through the prefilter cover O-ring (check version!); then cap and nut
Bubbles inside the prefilter Air entering the suction line O-ring, fitting gasket, reservoir level
It hums but won’t start Capacitor worn out Replace with a capacitor of the same value in mF; first, check that the shaft turns freely
Leaking between the housing and the motor Mechanical seal worn out Mechanical seal (check year)
It stops and starts again after a while Overheating Full basket, dirty filter, broken fan, unventilated enclosure
Leak at the pipe connection Fitting gasket Replace the gasket (€1.89) before replacing the fitting
Crack in the housing after winter Frozen water inside the pump body Pump housing
Leaves reaching the turbine Cracked strainer basket Pre-filter basket
Opaque cover Sun-induced aging Prefilter cover

Maintenance That Extends the Life of the Tifón

  • Empty the pre-filter basket every week during the season. A full basket causes the motor to run against a wall
  • Lubricate the O-ring with silicone once or twice per season: it seals better, the lid opens smoothly, and the seal will last for years
  • Open the drain plug when storing the unit for the winter. Frozen water inside the body is what causes the casing to crack: a well-used €1.95 plug protects a part worth €145.74
  • Close the cover with the official key—don’t use a makeshift tool
  • Never run the pump without the fan cover
  • Before the first start-up of the season, with the pump disconnected, check that the shaft turns freely by hand

Can’t find the replacement part for your ESPA Tifón, or are you unsure whether to use the old or new gasket? Call us at 91 128 55 90 or send us a message via the contact form with a photo of the nameplate and the open pre-filter —for a pump with this track record, the year is the deciding factor. And remember the simple step that saves the most Tifón pumps every winter: open the drain plug at the end of the season, because €1.95 well spent protects a unit worth €145.74.
