The ESPA Niper Pump and Its Replacement Parts

The ESPA Niper It is a compact, single-stage centrifugal pump designed for water recirculation in systems for portable pools and small in-ground pools. It belongs to ESPA’s “small” pump family: very quiet, designed for continuous operation, with a built-in thermal protector and suction and discharge fittings for connection to 40-mm-diameter pipes (with an optional 50-mm suction connection depending on the version).

Although the Niper is no longer available as a new pump, the spare parts catalog is still available: many residential installations keep this pump in perfect condition by replacing consumables as needed. What matters for operation is the electrical specification (12 microfarads), not the brand name printed on the capacitor's body, which can vary from batch to batch depending on the supplier.

Maintenance That Extends the Life of Your ESPA Niper

Clean the hair-collection basket every 1–2 weeks during the season. In above-ground and small pools, where the Niper operates, the basket fills up especially quickly with leaves, grass, and dust. A full basket forces the motor to work against resistance, accelerates wear on the mechanical seal, and raises the motor's temperature.

A solid start to the season. Fill the prefilter with water before starting the pump at the beginning of each extended use. Running the pump dry, even for just a few seconds, will irreversibly damage the mechanical seal.

Soft-close mechanism for the transparent lid nut. Tighten firmly by hand until it stops, without using tools. Forcing the nut closed will strip the threads and deform the O-ring (which is the part that rotates the most), causing leaks.

Winter Storage (Removable Pools). Empty the pump when taking down the pool. Loosen the drain screw, let all the water drain out, and store it in a dry place. A Niper stored with water inside in a freezing climate will crack.

Terminal box protection. A tightly secured cable gland and a tightly closed terminal box cover prevent moisture from entering, which is the main cause of rapid deterioration in electronics.
