The filter Coral Ciclón and its replacement parts

The filter Coral Cyclone is a compact sand filter made of injected polyester with the feature screw-on cap and base which sets it apart from the rest of the lineup Coral. Designed for medium-sized residential pools, it offers easy maintenance thanks to its key-operated screw-on lid (which eliminates the need for traditional screwing) and its built-in base, which makes leveling easier.

In the current catalog of Quimipool, the filter is also sold as Productos QP Cyclone, as part of the QP in-house line. Coral Ciclón and QP Ciclón are the same filter with the same replacement parts; the dual naming convention is historical, and both are useful for identifying the correct part.

The “screw-on cap” family in the catalog Coral/QP shares specific parts: Coral Neptune, , QP Cyclone and QP Ruby. In addition, the generic hydraulic components (selector valve, strainers, pressure gauge, through-hull fittings, drain) are compatible with the rest of the filters Coral (Alaska, RPG 2.0, Series 92) and the complete QP line (Volcán, Beige, Red, Blue, Azur, Grana).

Most Popular Parts and Compatibility

All the pieces are originals Coral. The big advantage of this line is its cross-compatibility: parts designed for the Ciclón are usually also compatible with the Neptuno and Rubí for specific components, and with the entire line Coral/QP in generic parts.

Specific parts from the “screw-on cap” family (Coral Cyclone, Neptune, QP Ruby)

Piece Notes
Filter cover (with plug and gasket) Complete replacement if the current cover is cracked or heavily worn
Lid gasket Part subject to the highest turnover; it gets crushed by repeated closing
Lid key Special tool for opening/closing the screw-on cap
Manual bleed + gasket To bleed air from the filter

Generic parts (compatible with the entire line) Coral and QP)

Piece Compatibility
1 1/2-inch Side-Mounted Selector Valve Cyclone, Neptune, Alaska, RPG, 92 Series, Complete QP Lineup, Superpool TT
1 1/2-inch Cup-Type Selector Valve Ciclón, Neptuno, Alaska, RPG, 92 Series, complete QP line

Important note about the screw-on cap: the lid gasket of the Cyclone is specific to the screw-top family (It is not the same as the standard filter cover gasket.) Coral Alaska, RPG, Series 92 (which have screw-on caps). Before ordering, visually check to make sure your filter has a cap screwed on with a wrench (It turns like a large plug) and isn't secured with screws.

When to Replace Each Part: Actual Symptoms

Symptom Candidate piece Verification
The lid is leaking around the seal Lid gasket Direct replacement (specific threaded cap part)
The lid is cracked or very worn Complete filter cover Replacement (includes plug with gasket)
I can't open/close the lid Broken or lost lid key Replace Key
The manual bleed valve does not close Manual bleed + gasket Direct replacement
The pressure gauge isn't reading or is reading incorrectly Pressure Gauge Direct replacement
Blood pressure rises quickly and does not drop with blood pressure-lowering medication Clogged sand/glass or broken strainers Wash; if the problem persists, open and inspect
Sand/glass gets into the pool Broken mesh or cracked top diffuser Open the filter, check the strainers and the diffuser
Leaks from the selector valve Internal seal or valve wear Technical service or complete replacement
Leaks at the connection to the tank Wall-penetration fitting with a deformed O-ring Wall-mounted bracket + gasket

Maintenance that extends the life of your Coral Cyclone

Soft-close screw-on lid. Tighten with the wrench as far as it will go, without using excessive force. Using a lever to force the tightening will deform the cap gasket (the part that rotates the most) and may crack the threads on the filter body.

Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly or gasket lubricant to the lid gasket every 1–2 years. It keeps the seal flexible, prevents it from flattening prematurely, and ensures a smooth closure. Important: Use lubricant suitable for EPDM gaskets (Do not use industrial petroleum jelly or solvent-based greases that could degrade the rubber.)

Perform a regular flush when the pressure gauge reads 0.3–0.5 bar above the clean pressure. Each filter has a normal operating pressure (usually between 0.5 and 0.8 bar when clean). When the pressure rises above that level, it’s time to backwash (set the valve to “Backwash” for 2–3 minutes, then to “Rinse” for 30 seconds, and back to “Filter”).

Replace the filter sand or glass every 4–7 years. Silica sand and filter glass do not last forever: they lose their effectiveness over time and become clogged. If, after backwashing, the pressure does not drop to its previous clean level, the filter media is spent.

Winter storage in areas prone to frost. Partially drain the filter housing or set the selector valve to “Winter” to prevent frozen water from cracking internal parts. Slightly loosening the threaded cap (without removing it) reduces internal pressure during winter storage.

Basic Troubleshooting of Common Problems

Symptom Most likely cause Action
The lid wears out after years of use Deformed lid gasket Replace lid gasket (specific to threaded lid)
The flow rate is extremely low, even though the pump is working properly Clogged filter or broken strainers Wash; if the problem persists, open
Sand/glass is coming out of the return nozzles Broken mesh or cracked diffuser Open the filter, replace the affected strainers
Pressure gauge always at zero Faulty pressure gauge or clogged intake tube Replace the pressure gauge
Leaks at the base of the filter Wall bushing or O-ring Wall-mounted bracket + gasket
Air in the system after starting the engine Improper manual bleeding or a leaky lid gasket Manual bleed + gasket; check lid gasket

If the problem persists after replacing the suspected part, the technical support can evaluate the team.
