The ESPA Iris pump and its spare parts

The ESPA Iris is a self-priming pump with integrated pre-filter, single-phase motor and modular construction, which for years was one of the most widely used pumps in the ESPA catalog for residential pools. Currently discontinued as a new modelESPA has replaced it with the following ranges Jardino Pool Nox y Silen I, the same mechanical concept and, in many parts, the same format.

In spite of the discontinuation, the catalog of spare parts is still active to maintain the many installations that still keep the Iris in perfect condition after occasional consumable replacements. The parts are very much in common with the current range (Jardino Pool Nox, Silen I, Silen, Silen S, Silen S2) and with sister models (Aquarama Iri, Leader Sirocco 50/100), which facilitates supply.

ESPA recommends as direct substitutes for the Iris ranges:

Note on the 12 mF capacitor: ESPA and Astralpool share capacitor supplier (same industrial group). The 12 mF capacitor in the Iris is the same electrical part that is used in many ESPA sister models and in pumps Astralpool for low power ratings. What matters for performance is the electrical specification (12 microfarads), not the marking printed on the capacitor body, which may vary from batch to batch depending on the supplier.

When to replace each part - actual symptoms

Maintenance that extends the life of your ESPA Iris

Cleaning of the pre-filter basket every 1-2 weeks during the season. It is the action that most influences the durability of the mechanical seal and the motor. A saturated basket forces the pump to work against resistance, raises the motor temperature and stresses the mechanical seal.

Correct baiting at the start of the season. Fill the pre-filter with water before starting. Running dry for even a few seconds will irreversibly damage the mechanical seal.

Soft closing of the pre-filter cover. Tighten firmly by hand to the stop, without tools. The pre-filter opening wrench is to assist in opening, not for lever tightening. Forced tightening deforms the gasket and cracks the transparent cover.

Winter storage in areas with frost. Drain the pump at the end of the season. Loosen the drain screw, let all the water drain out and leave the pre-filter cover ajar so that no internal pressure is created.

Terminal box protection. A tight cable gland and a tightly closed terminal box cover are crucial in a pump of the age of the Iris: accumulated moisture is the main cause of electrical failure in older pumps.

Basic diagnosis of common malfunctions

If the problem persists after replacement of the candidate part, the technical service can evaluate the complete equipment and, in older pumps, recommend replacement with the equivalent current model (Jardino Pool Nox or Silen I).
