what is cyanuric acid?

Cyanuric acid is the product that prevents the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays from scattering the chlorine in an outdoor pool from dissipating rapidly.

Cyanuric acid acts as a stabiliser of chlorine against UV rays.

Cyanuric acid levels in water.

The ideal level of cyanuric acid is 30 to 50 ppm (mg/l) to prevent rapid chlorine loss.

If the level of cyanuric acid is too low, it is necessary to add more to the water and adjust the pH if necessary. On the other hand, too much cyanuric acid will reduce the beneficial effect of the chlorine as it will be too stabilised. If the cyanuric acid level in your pool or spa is too high, you will need to drain and partially refill the pool or spa with fresh water. When refilling a pool or spa, check the cyanuric acid level and then repeat this test at least once a month.
