Technical characteristics

Checker Hanna alkalinity analyser HI775

Water alkalinity is one of the most important parameters to measure in aquariums as it helps to maintain a stable pH, a very important factor for most aquatic life.

The alkalinity of water can be defined as a measure of its ability to neutralise acids. In natural waters, this property is mainly due to the presence of certain salts of weak acids, although the presence of weak and strong bases can also contribute. These substances act as buffers to resist the drop in pH resulting from the addition of acids. This concept is widely used in wastewater treatment practice.

Concentrations of certain species (hydroxides, carbonates and bicarbonates) produce a buffer effect in water by absorbing protons and keeping the pH at a stable value. This is very important in living organisms and in certain media such as the bloodstream.

It is also worth noting that water with high alkalinity is not necessarily harmful for human consumption, such as carbonated water also known as soda.

Our alkalinity colorimeters make it easy to be confident in your measurements. Our portable meter eliminates the problem of matching to a colour chart, providing a direct digital ammonium result.

HANNA checkers are small, portable and, above all, provide more accurate results than typical chemical test kits. Offering improved technology, their simple design allows for easy, uncomplicated measurement.

These digital photometers or test kits serve as a bridge between very simple test kits and professional instrumentation such as a calibrated photometer.

Conventional test kits are not accurate and depend entirely on the user viewing the colour, which is why HANNA has digitised this measurement and achieved accurate digital pocket colourimeters.

The innovative shape of the Checker makes it fit in the palm of the hand and in the pocket. In addition, the LCD display is easy to read, with an automatic shut-off function in case for some reason you forget to turn it off.
