The cell is the component in the chlorinator with a limited service life. Here are the four signs that indicate it needs to be replaced:

• The chlorinator is showing a low-output error: the unit is operating at 100% but is unable to maintain chlorine at the recommended levels
• Water quality is progressively deteriorating: algae growth or cloudy water despite the chlorinator being operational
• Visual inspection of the electrode: visible wear on the titanium plates (reduced thickness, erosion of the edges, or peeling of the active ruthenium layer)
• The unit has accumulated many hours of use: the approximate service life of the cell is 3–5 years or the equivalent of 3.000-5.000 effective operating hours, depending on maintenance

How to extend the service life of the cell

• Maintain the pH within the optimal range (7.2–7.4) using an automatic pH control panel or a dedicated dosing pump
• Annual acid cleaning: Wash the electrode at least once a year with an acid cleaner specifically designed for electrolysis cells
• Remove the cell during winter storage: when the water temperature drops below 15 °C, remove and store the electrode in a dry place
• Monitor the salt concentration: 4–6 g/l is optimal. If outside this range, the system compensates by increasing the current, which accelerates wear and tear
